What Is Pyrophyllite?


Pyrophyllite is one of the natural minerals. The hardness of pyrophyllite is between 1 and 2, which is a relatively soft material.
Pyrophyllite has been widely used in glass fiber, pharmaceutical, sugar, cosmetics, pigment, rubber, paint, plastic and other industries after processing.
Pyrophyllite is a hydrous aluminosilicate, containing trace amounts of iron and titanium, and is available in milky white, gray-white, light green, light purple and other colors.
According to chemical and mineral composition, pyrophyllite can be divided into pyrophyllite, diaspore pyrophyllite, kaolinite pyrophyllite, siliceous pyrophyllite, etc.

How To Process Pyrophyllite? Which pyrophyllite processing machines are used?

1. Ore beneficiation and purification

(1) Crushing and grinding


The crushing and grinding of pyrophyllite has two purposes: one is to prepare powder raw materials for dissociation of pyrophyllite and impurity mineral monomers for beneficiation and purification operations; the other is to directly process pyrophyllite whose purity can meet the requirements of the application field. The commonly used crushers for pyrophyllite include jaw crusher, cone crusher, impact crusher, etc. The commonly used milling equipment mainly includes Raymond mill, ball mill, ultrafine mill etc.

Since pyrophyllite ore often contains hard impurities (corundum), while pyrophyllite is softer, it is very important to use selective crushing process equipment during beneficiation.
 

(2) Picking


The difference in the internal composition of pyrophyllite is reflected in the obvious appearance, mainly including information such as lightness and color. Therefore, the bulk impurity ore can be sorted out manually. Photoelectric pickers can also be used for picking.

(3) Reselection


There is little difference in density between pyrophyllite and impurity minerals, but after grinding, especially selective grinding, the primary particle size of different minerals is different, and the hardness difference is more obvious.
Hard minerals are often distributed in coarser particle sizes. According to these characteristics, the methods of dispersion and classification can be used for selection.

(4) Magnetic separation


Most of the minerals in pyrophyllite ore have no obvious magnetic properties, and iron-containing impurities have weak magnetic properties.
Except for the mechanical iron mixed in the crushing and grinding process, a weak magnetic separator or a suspended iron separator can be used, and a strong magnetic separator is generally used. or high gradient magnetic separator.
 

(5) Flotation


When the iron mineral impurities are sulfides, xanthate can be used as a collector to remove iron by flotation; when the iron impurities are oxides, petroleum sulfonates can be used as a collector to remove iron by flotation. The separation of pyrophyllite and quartz can also be done by flotation. Generally, fatty acids are used as collectors in alkaline pulp, and long-chain amines are used as collectors in acidic medium.

(6) Chemical purification


For ores with poor whiteness and physical beneficiation methods that are difficult to meet the quality index requirements, chemical purification methods can be used. The reduction bleaching process is generally used.

 

2. Ultrafine crushing


When pyrophyllite is used in papermaking, plastics, rubber, high-performance refractories and other fields, it needs to be superfinely pulverized. At present, the ultrafine grinding of pyrophyllite has two processes: dry method and wet method. The dry process mainly uses ball mills, raymond mills and ultra-fine mills; the wet process mainly uses grinding and peeling machines and stirring mills.
