Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, Autumn Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, August Festival, August will, Chase Festival, Playing Festival, Baoyue Festival, Daughter Festival or Reunion Festival, is a kind of popular China's traditional cultural festival in many ethnic groups. The time is in August fifteen of lunar calendar. It is called as Mid-Autumn Day because it is in the the half of autumn, so in some places, it is in August 16.

 

Began in the early Tang Dynasty, Mid-Autumn Day is popular in the Song Dynasty, to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it has been an important festival like the Spring Festival of China. Affected by the Chinese culture, the Mid-Autumn Festival is also a traditional festival of East Asian and Southeast Asian countries, especially the local Chinese and overseas Chinese. Since 2008, the Mid-Autumn Festival has been listed as national holidays. And on May 20, 2006, the State Council added in into the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.

 

 

Since ancient times, there is tradition that worship the moon, watch the moon, eat moon cakes, enjoy osmanthus, drinking osmanthus wine and so on on Mid-Autumn Day, which spreads so far. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, the moon's circle represents reunion of th family, and the moon is given the feelings of missing hometown and relatives. It also has somthing with hoping harvest and happiness. Mid-Autumn Festival has become a rich and colorful, precious cultural heritage. Autumn Festival, Dragon Boat Festival,Spring Festival and Ching Ming Festival are known as China's four major traditional festivals.
